The University of Washington Department of Medicine has a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling program with a mission to be an equitable and inclusive genetic counseling graduate program that provides innovative training of lifelong learners for a career in care, leadership, and science to meet the evolving needs of precision health.

The Assistant Program Director of Fieldwork Education would be a part-time appointment (60-80% FTE) at the faculty rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure eligible) in the Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Genetics. Assistant Teaching Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The University of Washington faculty engage in teaching and service. Anticipated start date would be May 1, 2025.

The Assistant Program Director of Fieldwork Education position would have dedicated administrative and teaching functions relating to fieldwork education for genetic counseling students as well as co-instructing a 3-course series on Genetic Counseling theory. The 3 courses in this series are taught synchronously on the UW Seattle campus in autumn, winter, and spring quarters.

The full-time base salary range is $9,167 to $9,583 per month ($110,004-$114,996 annually) and will be prorated for final FTE commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The Director of Fieldwork Education is responsible for planning, developing, and monitoring the fieldwork (clinical and laboratory rotations) portion of the graduate program. Duties include:

* Developing, structuring, organizing, delivering, scheduling, and evaluating fieldwork curriculum in accordance with established educational standards and practices

* Serving as instructor-of-record for fieldwork courses in the program, including student mentorship and evaluation, in collaboration with clinical preceptors

* Monitoring student progress through fieldwork curriculum and ensuring students are collecting an adequate number of cases in a variety of practice settings

* Creating the student evaluation processes for fieldwork portions of the curriculum

* Assessing student progress and documenting achievement of practice-based competency objectives after each rotation

* Creating and revising plans annually to ensure students graduate with an appropriate number and variety of fieldwork experiences

* Engaging and recruiting practicing clinicians and health care institutions to be fieldwork supervisors and rotation site in the greater Seattle area, Pacific Northwest region, and beyond

* Creating and maintaining orientation, training, and process documentation materials for new and returning clinical supervisors

* Monitoring the quality and effectiveness of supervised fieldwork instruction and regularly evaluating the teaching effectiveness of the clinical and laboratory sites involved with the program, including conducting site visits and meeting with clinical supervisors on a regular basis

* Planning and implementing an annual clinical supervisor training workshop

* Serving on the admissions committee including reading and evaluating applications to the MS in Genetic Counseling program, attending committee meetings, and conducting interviews

* Participating in recruitment activities and events to promote the Genetic Counseling program

* Attending faculty meetings

* Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

* MS in Genetic Counseling or closely related field (or foreign equivalent)

* Current certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC), American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG), or the Canadian Association of Genetic Counselors (CAGC)

* Five years of experience as a clinical genetic counselor with knowledge and demonstrated expertise in genetic counseling, teaching, and clinical supervision

* One year of experience coordinating fieldwork for genetic counseling graduate students
