Date: March 7, 2025 Position Available: Director of Missionary Outreach Position Reports to: Dean for Personal Vocation Department: Office for Personal Vocation FLSA Status: Exempt Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; occasional evenings and weekends Please apply online: POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Missionary Outreach is responsible for Franciscan University's outreach programs involving hundreds of students and serving thousands of people annually: Works of Mercy, Missions of Peace, and SENT retreat ministry. The Director plays a key leadership role in Franciscan University's institutional-wide efforts to promote a culture of personal vocation where students, staff, and faculty discern and respond to God's call in their lives. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Develop, direct, promote, and evaluate Works of Mercy, Missions of Peace and SENT retreat outreach programs; discern ongoing viability of current programs and develop new outreach programs as appropriate. 2. Develop student learning outcomes and outreach curriculum and materials; assess learning outcomes and overall program effectiveness. 3. Recruit, select, train, and supervise student leaders, advisors, and chaplains for outreaches. Accompany and observe students on local, domestic, and international outreaches. 4. Recruit, train, supervise, motivate, and evaluate a staff of 6-8 student employees and part-time pastoral assistants. 5. Develop budgets and manage revenues and expenses associated with off-campus outreaches within allocated budget, and in accord with University policies. 6. Identify and manage risks associated with off-campus, local, regional, national, and international outreach programs. Manage training and background checks as required. 7. Develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with local, national, and international mission and outreach partners, with other University departments, and with individual faculty and staff. 8. Other assigned duties that advance the goals of Franciscan University and the Office for Personal Vocation. This is not intended to be an all-inclusive list. REQUIREMENTS Must understand, support, and embrace the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville and possess the following: Technical Skills • Proficiency in Office 365 applications, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and Forms. Non-Technical Skills & Competencies • Understanding of Catholic theology and teaching as it relates to the human person, evangelization, and spiritual formation; the ability to articulate these principles and translate them into general policies and particular decisions. • Action Oriented: Displays initiative; doesn't wait to be told or asked to do something. Presents effectively in multiple settings: one-on-one, small/large groups, peers, staff and managers. Knows when to use written communications instead of verbal communications. Education & Experience • Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree in theology, business, educational administration, counseling, college student personnel, or other relevant field strongly preferred. • 5 years experience in mission/ministry work, service learning, or community service preferably in a Catholic setting with young adults. • 2-3 years of progressively responsible leadership and supervisory experience. • Experience managing departmental and/or event budgets. Workplace Factors • Occasional evenings and weekends required. • Domestic and international travel required.
