SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Passengers will be assisted in the movement of their personal luggage or parcels within this station or station facilities

The GEB (Guaranteed Extraboard) Red Cap is an on-call position. This employee is guaranteed full-time pay and the schedule will vary from week-to-week. They will be expected to cover planned and unplanned time off in the absence of other team members. Boston South Station's hours require that candidates be willing to work any shift/schedule, including days, afternoons, evenings, holidays and weekends.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

• Provide wheelchair service for disabled and/or handicapped passengers
• Provide arm assistance to blind individuals to and from the trains

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Employee must conform to Amtrak’s Standards of Excellence and prescribed code of dress
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Must be fully capable of operating commercial vehicles and mechanized equipment
• Must have a valid Driver's license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Two (2) years of college or business equivalent
• Two (2) years’ experience in a service-oriented position

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

 

The hourly range is $19.55 - $26.06 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment). Amtrak's pre-employment drug testing program is administered in accordance with DOT regulations and applicable law.

In accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR § 40.25), Amtrak is required to obtain prior drug and alcohol testing records for applicants/employees intending to perform safety-sensitive duties for covered Department of Transportation positions. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.

 

In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. §1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
