Golf Course Superintendent
Country Club in Moneta, Virginia is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Turf grass/plant material maintenance, personnel management, controlled maintenance budget/expense management, control/scheduling and repair of the irrigation system, pesticide applications and record keeping.
Basic Functions:
• Responsible for the maintenance department and agronomic operations.
• Creates, initiates and oversees an agronomic plan within budget.
• Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with the Owner and General Manager on any issues related to the golf course, grounds and maintenance department.
• Creates and oversees in-house projects to the facility and grounds.
• Works to operate the Golf Course in a fiscally responsible and professional manner.
• Must be able to work independently and be a self-starting problem solver.
Primary Duties:
• Oversees the care and maintenance of the turf, plants, shrubs and trees and on the facility grounds.
• Directs and assists the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs.
• Recruits, supervises and retains maintenance staff. Conducts employee performance evaluations.
• Oversees subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment.
• Keeps a log that the Club should retain in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the club’s grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
• Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed.
Requirements:
Turf degree preferred but enough successful experience will also work.
Knowledge of both Zoysia and Bent Grass in the mid-Atlantic region.
A solid background in irrigation operation and repair.
Skilled operator of chemical application equipment with a strong background in mixing, applying, and accountability of pesticides.
Possess a current state certificate or license as a pesticide applicator.
Licensed to drive.
Compensation:
$75,000 – $85,000 per year.
