Job Description

This is a full-time benefits eligible position located within the Facilities Management, Research and Administration Facilities Department in Bastrop, Texas.

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Maintenance Technician is Total Land Management, including operating heavy equipment to maintain unimproved roads, maintain and improve upon storm water drainage issues, maintain and build upon previous fire mitigation efforts by clearing underbrush, etc. In addition, the Maintenance Technician maintains irrigation systems, both fire mitigation and general landscape irrigation, as well as maintains turf and pastures.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

General Maintenance
Assist all crafts in the completion of preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

Finish Maintenance (Painting)
Performs work with limited supervision including prepares surfaces for painting. Mixes, matches, and applies paints, varnishes, shellac, enamels, epoxies and other finishes.
Patches, tapes, floats, finishes sheetrock/plaster walls and ceilings. Responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of the buildings.
Maintains the facility equipment including fire lines, process piping and parking areas. Follows all safety precautions and ensures knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
Accurately and timely completes all required paperwork - Work Order logs, etc.

Grounds Maintenance
Maintains all grounds, including landscaped, improved areas, and pasture areas. Removes debris and litter from parking lots, sidewalks and grounds associate with campus.
Safely operates all power equipment associated with grounds maintenance and landscape. Maintains and inventory of chemicals, fuels, spare parts and consumables require to efficiently perform the duties.
Assists supervision with planning, scheduling, assigning and supervising landscape and grounds activities completed by contractors.

Performs other duties or special assignments as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Level Degree.
Certification: None.
Preferred Certification: Texas Irrigator's License.
Experience: Two years experience in one or more crafts (i.e. - plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, instrumentation).
Preferred Experience: Heavy equipment operations, irrigation maintenance. Plumbing experience a plus.
Onsite Presence: Is Required.
