The LEAD DeKalb initiative is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of their Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program. One of the strategies that LEAD DeKalb has chosen for this iteration of the REACH program is Component B -- Adult Vaccination. The goals of this strategy include increasing awareness, confidence, demand, and access to all recommended adult vaccinations.

This is accomplished in three ways:

1. Community Outreach

2. Community Partnerships

3. Trusted Messengers

Key Components of the Program include:

1. Community Outreach

• Providing adult vaccination education and awareness at community events 。 Making vaccines available at community events

2. Community Partnerships:

Community organizations have an established relationship with certain groups, Establishing a partnership with a community organization that is a trusted source of information is one way to engage hard to reach populations.

Local organizations can apply to be a sub awardee up to $10,000 a year to host community outreach events offering vaccinations as well as providing adult vaccination education and awareness is a culturally relative way.

3. Trusted Messengers

DKPH will offer Trusted Messengers Training to individuals throughout DeKalb County beginning January 2025.

Trusted messengers serve as a critical link between public health programs and communities to deliver messages that resonate with residents.

This training is broken down into six sections:

1. REACH Program Review

2. Defining Trusted Messengers

3. Clinical review of Adult Vaccines

4. Priority Populations

5. Social Media as a Tool

6. Motivational Interviewing Techniques

This population was selected due to the high disease burden in these areas. Additionally, the Hispanic or Latino community will be the secondary population due to its high prevalence of chronic diseases that can lead to COVID-19 and flu complications. The estimated number of Black or African American and Hispanic or Latino people in DeKalb County is 465,909. Further, DeKalb Public Health (DKPH) will prioritize subpopulations such as LGBTQ+ communities of racial and ethnic

minority groups, the unhoused, pregnant people and immigrant/refugee communities to increase adult vaccination awareness, confidence, and uptake.
