Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Sign Language Interpreter to support a need at Lockheed Martin. As an ASL Interpreter, you will provide interpretation services for our deaf/hard of hearing employee(s) in a machine shop environment. The ideal candidate will be fluent in ASL and have experience working in a fast-paced industrial setting.
Responsibilities:
Provide accurate and timely ASL interpretation for deaf and hard of hearing employees in the machine shop
Facilitate communication between employees, supervisors, and other stakeholders
Interpret meetings, training sessions, and other work-related activities
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the company's policies, procedures, and safety protocols
Collaborate with others to ensure seamless communication
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and standards
Requirements:
National certification as an ASL Interpreter (e.g., NIC, CI, or CT)
2+ years of experience as an ASL Interpreter in an industrial or manufacturing setting
Fluency in ASL and English
Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment with exposure to machinery and equipment
Strong attention to detail and ability to concentrate for extended periods
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work a 4 days/week
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a machine shop or similar industrial environment
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and safety protocols
Certification in specialized areas, such as OSHA or industrial safety
Work Environment: The ASL Interpreter will work in a machine shop environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and equipment. The interpreter must be able to navigate the shop floor safely and effectively.
