Job Description
A remote Senior-level Marine Design Engineer job is currently available at Belcan. This is a full-time, direct or contract position. Great matching candidates, either local or remote, will need a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or similar discipline, and approximately 10+ years of applicable experience. You will be contributing to the conceptual design of commercial and military aquatic crafts.
Job Duties:
- Help guide and develop team of junior engineering staff
- Apply knowledge of marine and mechanical engineering to create 3D models and 2D drawings of pre- and post-production detail parts, assemblies, installations, sub-systems, and integrations for ships, crafts, and other floating structures.
- Apply mechanical and marine engineering knowledge in accordance with ABS, USCG, CFR, SOLAS, IMO regulations to deliver compliant designs
- Use engineering tools and software to help develop detailed designs in accordance with client requirements and industry specifications.
- Review mechanical, electrical, operational, cargo, and structural plans for compliance with customer requirements.
- Own development, release, construction, and class approval of vessels per customer project timelines.
- Develop and manage engineering products, including bill of materials, trade studies, and technical evaluations.
- Successfully operate in team environment by coordinating with both internal teams and external customers. This includes managing your own workload while directly assisting with the professional & engineering development of junior design staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Coordinate across all engineering disciplines (e.g. structural analysis, mechanical service and powering, electrical), both internally to Belcan and externally to the applicable customer.
- Meet or exceed project schedule and budget goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor"s degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent
- 10+ years of applicable experience
- Strong background in Computer Aided Design (CAD) modeling and drafting software, including experience with surface modeling along complex curvatures. Familiarity with AutoCAD, GHS, Solidworks (or Rhino) software is desirable.
- Experience with weldments.
- In-depth knowledge of industry-standard specifications, tools, and procedures, including ABS, CFR (code of federal regulations), USCG (Coast Guard), SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea), International Maritime Organization (IMO), and/or DNV-GL (Det Norske Veritas-Germanicher Lloyd) rules
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skill with ability to accomplish assignments in either independent or in team-setting
- U.S. Citizen required
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- Knowledge of American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards
- Experience with ShipConstructor CAD software
We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a salary range of $100,000 to $120,000. Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline.
